The Feminist Movement was going well until the mid- to late 1970'2.  It failed to broaden its appeal beyond middle class.  Divisions began to arise between moderate and radical feminists.  People against the movement mounted a campaign against the Equal Rights Amendment and it died in 1982 without gaining the approval of the 38 states needed for ratification.

Today modern feminist, like Loretta J. Ross or Nadine Strossen, are trying to start a third wave.  It hasn't started yet and it is sure to be different from the other two if it is successful.
