Michael was born on October 30, 1930 in Italy, Rome. He moved to the United States, and lived in Washington D.C. He graduated from St. Albans High school. In 1952 he was awarded the Bachelor Of Science from West Point. He served as a fighter pilot for the Air Force High Flight Center at Edwards Air force Base, California. |
In October 1963 he was picked to be abroad the Apollo 11. Collins was pilot in the Gemini X Mission. On the Mission he set the world Altitude mission record. He also became the 3rd space walker while completing 2 extravehicular activities. |
Michael was command module pilot of the Apollo 11 He stayed in orbit while Neil and Buzz conducted experiments. he earned many awards for this. In 1970 he left NASA to do many more other great things, but he is currently an aerospace consultant and writer. |
