Annelisse Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt am Maim, Germany on June 12, 1929 Anne, as she was called was the second daughter born to Otto and Edith Frank. Anne and her older sister Margot, who was 3 years old, were post World War I era. | |

In January 1933 Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany, and the Nazis came into power. The Franks moved to Amsterdam in the Netherlands because of increasing tensions in Germany. They lived with Grandmother Hollander. In December Edith and Margot joined them in February. |
In the year 1934 Anne attended kindergarten at the Montessori School. She enjoyed school, beach and had both Jewish and Christian Friends. The Franks were adjusting to their new life. | |
In 1939 Hitler invades Poland and World War II starts. Anne and Frank had to leave Montessori School because they were not allowed to attend school with non-Jews. They left and attended the Jewish Lyceum. | |
In 1942 they moved to 263 Prinsengrachy. All the Jews 6 years old and older were required to wear the yellow star of David on their clothes. This was a way to tell them apart from non-Jews. Anne received a diary for her thirteenth birthday. |

Margot received a call-up notice for Nazi work camp in July of 1942. Edith and Otto knew they had to go into hiding, even through there hiding place was not ready. They went into hiding the next day, and move into the "Secret Annex". By July 13th all eight residents were in. Anne wrote about her home . "The Annex is an ideal place to hide. It may be damp and lopsided, but there's probably not a more comfortable place in all Amsterdam. No, in all Holland. They stay in her fathers work for 25 months. | |
At 10:00 A.M. on August 4, 1944 the residents were arrested from "Secret Annex". Someone betrayed them and one knew who. When they left, Miep returned , to find sheets of Anne diary all over the floor. Her diary was called kitty. | |
In September of 1944 Anne and Margot are sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. Edith remained in woman sub-camp and died of starvation. Anne and Margot both had very little food , clothing or medicine. They survived mostly on a piece of bread. They both contacted typhus, and died 9 months after being arrested. They died in February or March of 1945 Margot was 17 and Anne was 15. |

On October 24; Otto received a letter telling him his daughters had died. He was the only one of the eight that survived, Miep agreed to write her memoirs. The title of the book is Anne Frank remember over 1500 copies were published. The diary was translated into 67 languages and became a best selling book. Anne Frank house opened in 1960. | |

"Our freedom was severely restricted by a serious of anti-Jewish decrees; Jews were required to wear a yellow star; Jews were forbidden to use street cars; Jews were forbidden to ride in cars even their own ;Jews were required to do their shopping between 3 and 5 p.m. Jews were required to frequent only Jewish owned barbershop and beauty parlors; Jews were forbidden to be out on the streets between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Jews were forbidden to visit Christians in their homes; Jews were required to attend Jewish school. You couldn't do this and you couldn't do that. But life went on. June 29,1942 | |
