Sitting Bull

At age 14 Sitting Bull received his name from his father after counting his first coup.  At age 15 he galloped past a group of Flatheads and only received a minor wound to the foot causing a permanent limp.  Because of his bravery that he showed to the Flatheads he was selected for Kit Fox and Strong Heart, two elite warrior societies.  In 1856 he had a Crow encounter in which he challenged the chief for a one on one battle.  They fired simultaneously.  The chief was killed and Sitting Bull walked away with a minor wound.  At the age of 27 he was honored and made a War Chief of the Hunkpapa tribe.
