George Armstrong Custer

He was born in New Rumley, Ohio in 1839, but grew up with his half-sister in Monroe, Michigan.  After high school he went to West Point where he graduated last of his class.  He was court-martialed for failing to save two cadets.  He was called back shortly though, due to the need of the Civil War.  At the age of twenty-five he became the youngest Brevet Major General and was sometimes called ‘boy General’ by his fellows.  He was reduced to Lieutenant Colonel after the war.  In 1867 he was court-martialed again because he was absent from duty.  General Sheridon called him to work in 1868.

To redeem himself he led the attack on Black Kettle on the Washita River.  In 1873 he was sent to the Northern Plains to lead 1,200 people into the Black Hills, which were given to the Lakota six years before.

During the Battle of Little Bighorn he used a Remington .50-caliber sporting rifle with an octagonal barrel and two revolvers that were not standard issue.  They were possibly Webley British Bulldogs, double action, white handled revolvers.  He died during the Battle of Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876.
