The Night of the Broken Glass After the assuming of the chancellor ship of Germany, Hitler started performing legal actions against the Jewish people of Germany .It all started when Herschel Grynszpan, a 17-year old Jew shot and killed a German Embassy man. He shot him because Nazi's were beating his family and 15,000 other Jews where shipped out of Germany and into Polish territories. Hitler's youth group and the Schutzstaffel beat and killed Jews all over Germany. At least 96 Jewish people were killed and more than 1,500 synagogues where set to fire. 7,500 Jewish businesses were destroyed and 35,000 Jews where arrested and sent to concentration camps.
That night a man watched the SS and German Officials beat three families. He said, ''It was cruel, the kids where screaming for there mothers and fathers, one of the boys tried to stop them but a SS hit him in the face and he fell to the ground. On the other side of Germany a Rabbi went to his Jewish friends house and told them to turn all of there lights off and lock the door. The friends did as told and didn't get caught. Police kept people from interfering with the vandals. They arrested Jewish people for there own protection. The Jews were ordered to fix there damages caused by the Germans and Nazis to there store's. Hitler ordered the insurance companies not to pay for the damages. The Germans forced the Jewish families to give up there stocks, money ,and art work because they could get money for them. So the Nazis took them and used them for money. The reaction to other countries outside of Germany where shocked and discouraged. The people of the press were negative and the radio station talked continuously about Hitler's nations and rights groups. On November 12 Herman Goering held a meeting with the Nazi Leadership to go over the damages and loses. Herman Goering got a letter saying that is night should be called the Kristallnacht or ''The Night of the Broken Glass''. Other counties were informed about the mess. Neighboring counties were terrified that they would come to there country and do the same. At the White House President Roosevelt and his staff read about the crisis in Germany . President Roosevelt said" How could a I scarcely believe something like this could happen in the 20 century civilization. The Germans said that the Kristallnacht or The Night of the Broken Glass was official for the night of November 9, 1938. The word Kristallnacht was to be from the German language. People all over the world came to know that this night as one of the most terrifying nights in history. Jews became the worst people in the nation to be at the time. But that didn't bring them down in this world.
