Adolf Eichmann was born on March 19, 1906 in Solingen, Germany. After Adolf’s mother died, when he was 10, his family moved to Linz, Austria, which was also Hilter’s home town. When Eichmann was young he was teased a lot about his dark skin and his nickname was “the little Jew” by his classmates, although he was Protestant. In 1932 when Eichmann was 26 he was invited to a Nazi party meeting by Dr. Ernst Kaltenbunner a family friend. Adolf then signed up. After being laid off, he sought help from Dr. Ernst. He arranged for Eichmann to be accepted in to the S.S. that year he was 28 Eichmann started out as a filing clerk cataloging. He was then assigned to the Jewish section. This marked the beginning of Eichmann’s interest in Jews. During 1935, the Nuremberg Laws were passed and Jewish people were no longer German citizens. During this period Eichmann secures his role in the Nazi Party and gained his reputation for being an expert in Jewish affairs. Around this time Eichmann moves to the Department II 112, The Jewish Department. In 1936 Eichmann marries Vera Liebel and later has kids. Then he visits Palestine to discuss the possibility of a large scale immigration, but they ordered him out of the country. |

When the Nazis took over Austria on March of 1938 Eichmann was appointed Special Officer [“Referent”] for Zionist Affairs. Also Eichmann was sent to Vienna where he established a Central Office for Jewish emigration. In this same year on August 26, he was promoted he was Second Lieutenant. Adolf Eichmann went to Berlin on Feb. 2, 1939 and again was promoted this time to Gestapo Section. Eichmann became one of the most powerful men in the Third Reich, he would remain head of the Gestapo for the remainder of the Reich. Eichmann was a fast mover, in March Eichmann met with the Jewish leader in Berlin reviling the Central Office for Eichmann will be Prague then on July 26 he opens the Central Office. |

In Poland which had the largest number of Jews [3.35 million] Eichmann forced them to theGhettos and labor camps. Under the supervision of Eichmann S.S Einsatz group in occupied areas of the Soviet Union now turned their full attention to the mass murder of Jews. Einsatz leaders kept highly detailed records. Competition even arose among the 4 main groups as to who posted the highest number of Jews that had died. The first year of the Nazi occupation of the Soviet territory over 300,000 Jews were murdered. At Auschwitz, a death camp, Eichmann told how they picked victims. “The way we picked our victims was as followed; we had 2 S.S doctors on duty to examine the incoming transports of prisoners. The prisoners would be marched by one of the doctors who would make spot-decisions as they walked by. Those who were fit for work were sent into the camps. Others were sent immediately to the extermination camps. Children of tender years were unable invariable exterminated since by reason of their youth they were unable to work." To German soldiers Eichmann told them to say you saw nothing. The total of Jews, in August 1944, 4 million died in death camps, and 2 million by mobile units. In May, Eichmann was captured by the Americans, but he adopts the name Adolf Karl Barth and escaped. It was August when he was captured for a second time again by the Americans. November 20, 1945 Nuremberg tribunal convenes. By the time it is over Eichmann will be labeled as “the man in charge of the extermination program against the Jews.” On January. 5, 1946, Eichmann escaped the POW camp and heads north with forged papers he received at the camp. The papers identify him as a forest ranger named Otto Hening. He hides out in Germany for 4 years. In April, 1961, the trail of Adolf Eichmann begins. [This is an exert from Eichmann's Final Plea] Accused-"I have heard the court's severe verdict of guilty. The witnesses' statement here in the court made my limbs go numb once again, acting on orders. I did try to leave for the front, for honest battle. Once again I would stress that I'm guilty of having been obedient. May I therefore, ask that I obeyed, and not who I obeyed. Top echelons gave the orders and they rightly in my opinion, deserve the punishment for the atrocities which were prepared on the victims on their orders. I am not the monster that I am made out to be. I am a victim of an error of judgment. I was assaulted in Buenos Aries, I was tied to a bed for a week and then drugged by injections in my arms and brought to the airport in Buenos Aries; from there I was flown out of Argentina.
