Auschwitz - Death Camp was made on April 27, 1940. Auschwitz became a killing center where the largest number of Jews were killed during the Holocaust. After an experimental gassing there in September 1941 of 850 malnourished and ill prisoners, mass murder then became a daily routine.

By Mid 1942, mass gassing of the Jews using Zyclon B began at Auschwitz. Where extermination was conducted on an industrial scale with some estimates  running as high as three million persons killed through gassing, starvation, disease, shooting and burning. Nine out of Ten were Jews. At Auschwitz children were killed upon arrival. Children born in the camp were generally killed on the spot. Near the end of the war in order to cut expenses and save gas, cost accountant considerations led to an order to place living children into ovens or throw them into open burning pits.

In December of 1942, Professor Carl Clauberg came to the death camp Auschwitz and started his medical experimental activities. He injected  chemical substances into wombs of women during his experiments. Thousands of Jewish and Gypsy women were subjected to this treatment. They were sterilized by the injections producing horrible pain, inflamed ovaries, bursting spasms in the stomach, and bleeding. The injections seriously damaged the ovaries of the victims, which were then removed and sent to Berlin. Likewise at Claubergs's collogue, Dr. Herta Oberhauser killed children with oil and (evipan injections) then  removed their limbs and vital organs, rubbed ground glass and sawdust into wounds.

The death camp Auschwitz was made up of three main camps which are:  Auschwitz which was known as the "Mother Camp, Auschwitz 2 which was known as Birkenau and there was Auschwitz 3. In Auschwitz more than 250,000 Gypsies and were murdered in an attempt by the Nazis to remove Gypsies as well as Jews from Europe. The main item used to murder the Jews was Zyclon B sent into  gas chamber disguised as shower rooms. Although gas chambers were the main way of killing the Jews, a bullet to the back of the neck was also used, which sometimes didn't kill the prisoners instantly. The bodies were arranged in layers between layers of wood and they were able to burn about 2000 bodies in one bonfire. "A society that burns books will eventually burn its people." Quoted by: Heinrich Heine, a German Poet.

What was Auschwitz?

Auschwitz located in Ocweicim outside of Crocow, Poland has become a symbol of the Holocaust. One of the main reasons that Nazi Germany established the camp there was because it was a central intersections of roads and railways. Before the second world war Jews were living in Ocweicim who were often artisans or merchants, constituted approximately half of this small towns population. After the Holocaust, it may be argued that Ocweicim will forever be over shadowed by Auschwitz - Birkenau, the largest of the Nazi concentration camps and extermination centers.

Forever let this place be

a cry of despair

and a warning to  humanity

where the Nazi's murdered

about one and a half

million

men, women and children

mainly Jews

from various countries

of Europe
