In about 1920 it all started. Hitler became of power, and he stripped
all non-Aryans or people with out Blond hair and blue eyes and Jewish
people of there citizens ship.
America didn't help, we had a isolationist policy to foreign
relations from 1920`s to 1930`s. In 1938 Franklin Roosevelt made a
initiative that had eased extreme restricted immigration policies of
the Great Depression year. Judith Doneson asserted people
throughout America were now initiated into the world of Nazi
genocide against the Jewish people.
In 1944 the United States Air Force bombed the Auschwitz-Monowitz
industrial complex, only 5 miles away was a bunch of Nazi gas
chambers. But in Spring of 1944 allies knew of the operations of
the use of poison gas at Auschwitz- Birkenau extermination
camps.
But earlier in 1943 Polish courier Jan Karski informed
Franklin Roosevelt of mass murders received from
Jewish leaders in the Warsaw ghettos. In 1943 U.S. and
British representatives met in Bermuda to find a
solution to wartime refugee problem. Finally in 1944
Roosevelt established the War Refugee to facilitate the
rescue of imperiled refugees.
At the end of the war America, and Allied troops
liberated the death camps. America was deluged with
images of death and Nazi genocide. In the late 1930`s
and early 1940`s America attempted to suppress the
images of terror that steadily leaked from Nazi Germany.
The threat of nuclear extermination was to immediate.
West Germany became an ally in the Cold War, and the
Holocaust was virtually forgotten in the 1950`s
for a while.
Allied troop were so mad at what found at the
extermination and work camps. They forced the
neighboring citizens to help with the burials of the
bodies found at the death camps. The United States
troops led tours of concentration camps. At one
point in time Franklin d. Roosevelt visited
one of the death camps.
Congressman , like Senator Bilbo
of Mississippi and Bureaucrals such as
Breckinridge Long who was in change of refugee
at the U.S. Department of State, did not help
simply because they didn't want to help.
President Roosevelt appointed Breckinridge
Long as his ambassador. Breckinridge Long was
the State Department official when the Holocaust
was going on. |
In 1945, Earl G. Harrison,
President Trumans envoy. David Ben -Gurion, future
Prim Minister of Israel, and the Anglo American
Commission of Inquiry visited the death camps.
American legislatures passed the displaced persons
Act of 1948. The most salient event in the
resurrection of the Holocaust was in 1967 when the
Israeli victory of the Six-Day War. |
