There are different kinds of camps like, labor camps, extermination camps, and death camps.  Auschwitz was a death\ extermination camp.  Which means they killed people by guns, starvation, by gas, and any other sick way.  Auschwitz was built on April,27,1940, in Oswiecim ,Poland.  There were many different jobs their , some had to take off gold rings, teeth, and any other valuable objects.  Others carried out dead corpses out of the gas chambers , and some other better trusted Jews got to be a guard and make sure no one tried to escape. Jews were sent their because Adolf Hitler was trying to take out there entire race cause he blamed their lost in the war on them.
Himmler chose Höss and orders him to carry out the order " Final Solution"  of the Jews.  Then their came Auschwitz 2 "Birkenau" it was built in Oswiecim, Poland, almost next to Auschwitz .  Built because Höss got an order from Himmler to make a massive expansion on the camp.  Birkenau can hold over 100,000 people.
Himmler visited Auschwitz -Birkenau and built 4 new crematory centers that can hold roughly around 5,000 bodies each as a daily capacity.  The living conditions of the people were nasty.  Example is a survivor that said people stole things and that was really bad because you didn't have much they stole food that you were lucky to even had.
At Auschwitz-Birkenau many people died in many different ways, most gassed in the cambers using the gas resource Zykon B.  Some gunned down right when they got there with machine guns, starvation, and many medical things.
The first transport of Jews from Vienna to Auschwitz-Birkenau was December 2.  On December 10,1942the first Jews from Germany comes to Auschwitz -Birkenau.  In March 15/16 deportations of Jews from Greece comes to Auschwitz -Birkenau totaled about 50,000 Jews were brought in.  Then German troops were sent to Czechoslovakia the number of Jews brought in were around 350,000.  September 1st,1939- Poland was invaded the Jewish population was 3.35 million the largest in Europe.  On March 12/13 Nazi troops invaded Austria with 200,000 Jews caught and brought in.
At Auschwitz there were not many escapes if there were the troops would go and hunt them down and kill them.  I do not know how many escapes there were but probably not many Because of how many guards and to many watch towers.
Auschwitz usually averaged around 5,000 people a day.  The record high kills in a day was 9,000.  they crammed everything to get almost double the average.
The total number of kills at Auschwitz is still under estimate the total number kills at Auschwitz know today is 1to 1.5 million Jews.
The total saved was about 7,500 prisoners they were saved on January 27,1945.
"Survivor story by Soloman Radasky.  Out of 78 people in my family I was the only one to survive I told my self I don't want to live What's the difference? I don't give a dang?  My numbered  tattoo was 128232. The numbers add up to 18 which meant '' Chai-life.''  My name is Soloman Radasky.
Höss about the gas chambers, " The door would be quickly screwed up and the gas was then discharged in the chambers by the waiting disinfectors through the vents in the ceilings of the gas chambers down shaft that led to the floor.  This insured the rapid distribution of the gas.  It could be observed through the peep hole in the door that those who stood closest to the distribution vents were killed at once.  It can be said that almost 1/3died straight away.  The remainder stayed gassed about began to scream and struggle for air the screaming how ever changed to the death rattle in a few minutes all lay still.  The door was open a half an hour later after  the induction of the gas and the ventilation was switched on the special detachment how set about removing gold teeth , and cut hair off the women.  After this, the bodies were taken  up by an elevator and laid in front of ovens, which mean while have been stocked up.  Depending on the size of the bodies up to three corpses could be put up in the oven at the same time the requiring  time for this was twenty-minutes.''
