John Deere HistoryFrom 1837 to 2005 |
|
John Deere founded his company in 1837. He was watching some people working the field . He noticed that the cast iron plow was not working. So he discovered that a highly polished plow would allow dirt to shed itself. |
||
John Deere was originally called Deere and Company. It all started from a blacksmith shop and a little bit of thought. Selling these plows made his popularity sky rocket from a blacksmith to a world wide industry. These working machines go from agriculture to road construction to mining..
John Deere's first tractor was called the Waterloo Boy. The tractor got its name from being the first tractor that either had gasoline or kerosene to heat the water in the boiler. This tractor was introduced in 1906. Its top power is remarkable for the time, its range was 2-16 horse power. It may not be a lot now I'm sure it made many farmers happy back then.
In 1934 the first combine was discovered. It was pulled behind a tractor. The combine ran off either PTO (Power Take Off) or a separate engine. Although the PTO was very reliable most farmers did not have PTO on there tractors.
In 1952 the JD MC Crawler was invented. It was the beast of them all. The MC could pump out over 84 horsepower. The recognized pop-pop of the two cylinder was lost, now there is a more powerful rumble. On these tractors PTO and powr-trol hydraulics system was optional.
In the 1970's the 8010 JD was discovered. For the time it was the most powerful. Its power plant was a 425ci in-line diesel six. It was fitted with a GM supercharger. Most of the prototypes were destroyed. What remain The height is 99in. and 96in. wide. The road speed is twenty mph and above. At the ride height and this fast could be dizzying for the operator.
Our generation of this tractor is called the 9620. This is the most powerful of them all. It pumps out over 550 horses. The engine is a in-line diesel six. It is turbocharged with a intercooler.
John Deere's past, present, and future was, is, and will be good. This guy started with a saw a piece of steel, and a blacksmith shop, and turned it into a world wide creation of invention and innovation.
