wouldn’t have guessed that the Nazi Party started as a gang of unemployed
soldiers in 1919. Hitler joined the
Party in 1919 and rose to leadership. |

In the treaty of Versailles Germany was
disarmed and forded to pay a huge reparation for the coast of the war. Hitler encouraged national pride. Militarism
and a racially pure Germany, he condemned the Jews. |

Hitler
attempted an armed overthrow of legal authorities in Munich it failed
miserably. Hitler used the courtroom
of his public trial as propaganda platform. At the end of his trial he gained
support for courage of action. The
right-wing presiding judges sympathized with Hitler and sentenced him to only
5 years in prison with eligibility for parole. In on year he was released from prison. While in prison he rote
the first volume of Mein Kampf
(My Struggle) it was published in 1925. Other Nazi Party members where given light sentences also. Hitler’s book became the ideological bade
for the Part’s racist ideas and murderous practices. When he was released
from prison he started to rebuild the Party and trying to gain political
power in Germany. |

In
1925 conservation military hero Paul von Hindenburg was elected president and
Germany stabilized. |

Hitler maneuvered through
the Nazi Party’s politics and emerged as the sole leader. Hitler was the Furerprinszip or leader to
whom the Party members swore loyalty unto death. Hitler’s strategy was to develop a highly centralized and
structured Party that would compete in future elections. Hitler wanted to bureaucracy, which he saw
as the “germ of the future state”. |

1925 they had 27,000 members, then in 1929 they had 108,000 members. |

The
SA was the primary unit for the party, they were known for their strong-arm
tactics of street brawling and terror.
The SS was est. as elite group
with special duties with in the SA it remained in affected until Heinrich
Himmler became leader in 1929. |

In
may 1928 the Party did poorly in the Reichstag elections. They won only 2.6% of all the votes. The Party shifted the strategy the rural
and small towns. They fueled
anti-Semitism by calling for exportation of Jewish agricultural property and
be condemning large Jewish department stores. The Party’s propaganda was
affective at winning over; university students, veterans organizations, and
professional gropes. The Party became
mostly identified with young men in lower middle classes Heinrich Bruning is
the first Chancellor under the new presidential system. He was able to unify the government. |

In
September 1930 there were new elections.
The Party won and important victory capturing 83% of the votes, that
made it the 2nd largest party in Reichstag. |

Hindenboug
term ended as president in 1932. At age 84 he was reluctant to run again he
knew if he didn’t run Hitler would win.
Hidenburg won the election; Hitler won 37% of the votes. In the election of 1932 the party had 37
of the seats |

Fronz von Papen the new Chancellor was a
member on the Catholic Centre Party, he was more sympathetic to the Nazi’s he
removed the ban on the SA. The SA
Drown shirts were part of the daily violence for a couple of week’s the
streets were full of warfare 86 people where killed. |

To
gain support for hid government Franz von Papen made another election. Hitler had the support of the upper middle
classes, and the NSDAP won 230 seats, it was the largest party in
Reichstag. |

The
German Social Democrat had 133 and the German Communist Party had 89 they
still had support of urban working classes, Hitler was deprived of overall
majority in parliament. Hitler
demanded that he be made. |
